Three Generations, One Family: The Story Behind Every Breeden Home

Eugene, Oregon home builder | Breeden Homes

More than 79 years ago, two brothers who’d grown up during the Great Depression decided to build a house. James and John Breeden, the oldest and youngest of nine children, weren’t trying to build an empire. They just wanted to build something families could actually afford — a solid, honest home, built the right way.

That first house led to a second. Then a neighborhood. Then generations of Lane County families who didn’t just buy a Breeden home — they grew up in one, raised their own kids in one, and in more than a few cases, came back decades later to build another.

What “Custom” Really Means to Us

Every builder will tell you they care about quality. We’d rather let one of our own homeowners tell you what that actually looks like in practice:

“If you purchase a house once every 32 years, as we have just done, and you return to buy from the builder of that first house, we believe that delivers a very positive message about that builder. Breeden Homes built our first dream house in Eugene, and they’ve now built our second dream house in Junction City. From the sales and office staff to the carpenters on the ground, we’re deeply grateful for the workmanship, understanding, integrity, and helpfulness we’ve experienced.”

That’s not a testimonial we wrote. It’s a family who walked away for over three decades — lived their whole lives, raised their kids, watched the world change — and when it came time to build again, they came home to us.

We don’t take that lightly.

Still Family-Run, Still Local

We’re proud to be Oregon’s oldest licensed home builder. But what that really means, day to day, is simpler than it sounds: the people who answer your calls, walk your lot with you, and stand behind your home when it’s finished are the same people — and often the same families — who’ve been doing this work in Lane County for two generations and counting.

We have built homes in Eugene, Springfield, Junction City,  and more communities throughout the region. Whether you’re building on a lot of ours, land you already own, or property we help you find, the process starts the same way it did in the 1950s: a conversation about what your family actually needs, and a commitment to build it honestly.

Building Neighborhoods

We are still building neighborhoods. Right now we are on our last lots for River Heights in the Hayden Bridge area. Beautiful homes in a setting one homeowner called her piece of paradise. Check out our current home going up right now here.  And learn about this amazing neighborhood here.

Thinking About Building?

If you’re weighing whether to build a custom home in the Eugene /Springfield area, we’d love to talk with you about what that process looks like — no pressure, just an honest conversation, the same way it’s always been.
